Hello all!

It is time again for the LemonDrop Post-It show!

For those of you who remember the Post-It Show in May, December’s First Friday (December 2) is going to work in a very similar fashion. This show is going to be made completely of post-its! You can do as many post-it works as you like, however, we are encouraging at least 12 per artist. Each artist will have some sort of box next to their work, and as people walk around the gallery, they can drop $1 per post-it in the box and pluck a work(s) off of the wall right then and there.

By operating in this manner, we are trying to promote local arts, as well as promote becoming an art owner. Each artist will receive half of their earnings back, and the other half will go back to LemonDrop in order to help us continue our mission statement of nurturing local creative culture. If you are not present to pick up your earnings when the show ends at 9:30 that evening, the money will automatically become a donation to LD.

Here is the criteria for the show:

Must be on yellow post-its.

Can be in whatever medium your heart desires (ink, paint, stamp, collage… whatever) as long as it is on the post-it

There is no theme

Encouraged to make at least 12 post-it works

Although this show will work similarly to the last post-it show, there are just a few differences to note:

1) You must work on your own post-its. We will not be providing them this time.

2) Post-it’s will be priced at $1 per post-it, instead of 50¢. Everyone who entered work last time went above and beyond what we expected, and your work is worth more than 50¢!

Please contact me if you are interested in participating in this event, and feel free to forward to any artists that might like to participate. Post-its will be due Tuesday, November 29th.

Contact Alex@LemonDrop.org with questions and/or confirmations. Thank you!

Along with a few smaller shows, the month of May brought hundreds of Springfielders through the LemonDrop gallery for the 50¢ Post-It Show, the FIND Art Tour, and the all-ages LD Block Party. Shows raised money for LD and local artists who participated.

For May’s First Friday, over 900 Post-Its covered the gallery walls for the 50¢ Post-It Show. About 30 local artists painted, printed, sowed, and sketched images onto individual Post-Its. Some even made larger pieces out of multiple Post-Its. The event showcased Springfield artists while promoting and enabling art ownership with crazy cheap prices.

Although doors opened at 7 p.m., the art didn’t go on sale until 7:30 p.m. so everyone would get a chance to see the collection as a whole before guests began plucking their favorite Post-Its from the wall. Small boxes were placed below each artist’s collection where people deposited 50¢ for each Post-It. 25¢ went to LemonDrop and 25¢ were given back to the artist. Featured artist, H.E. Croan was the top seller earning around $33 total.

Because the event was so successful, LemonDrop has decided to make the Post-It Show bi-annual! So keep your ears open for another show this fall.

A day after Post-It buying, hot and sticky weather didn’t keep folks from gathering in an empty lot across from LD for the all-day LemonDrop Block Party on May 7th. People came to chill, listen to live music, watch local artists create their masterpieces, and even participate in a little art-making themselves.

The event featured artists Francois Lariviere, Nick Tarr, Gary Bedell, Tyler Gross, Meganne Rosen O’Neal, John Worcester, and Zac Swanson. With performances throughout the day by Sincerely Yours, Geeg (DJ), Slapdash Science, Nick Fury (DJ), The North Decade, Agent Traxxident (DJ), J-Nunn, Trak Masta Tom, Bringers of the Dawn, The Spacetones, and Crisco Kid (DJ).

Also in May, the national FIND Art Tour set up shop at LemonDrop on the 16th. This summer FIND Art Magazine, based in Los Angeles, is taking a semi-truck turned art gallery across the country, stopping in 55 cities. FIND Art chose one artist from each city to be featured in the national tour, and Francois Lariviere was selected from Springfield.

The May 16th show included pieces from local Springfield artists in the main gallery and live art, the traveling exhibit, and food by The Taco Wagon out back. People grabbed their free FIND Art Magazine Issue #6 , ate some tacos, and watched a few local artists do their thing.

If you are like us, PechaKucha (pronounced Pechá-koochá) is a relatively new word for you… or maybe it is still completely foreign! Allow us to shed some light… PechaKucha “draws its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.”

While very new to Springfield, LemonDrop was fortunate enough to have PechaKucha presentations about history and architecture for April’s First Friday just last week. Accompanying presentations from local architects and designers was work by the late architect, Richard Stahl, and ditties by local singer Barak Hill. Check out PechaKucha Springfield’s Facebook page here.

Twas a beautiful night for a First Friday on Commercial Street.

Despite the Midwest’s relentless blizzard, Art for the Heart drew a good crowd at LemonDrop last Friday, February 4th. The show started off pretty quiet- a few spastic dance outbursts, people chattin it up with the artists, and a comedic drawing of raffle tickets. A handful of lucky supporters won original pieces donated by participating artists and some sweet stuff from 5#Apparel, The Moxie, A Valeria Boss Salon, CD Warehouse, Askinosie Chocolate, Next Generation Tattoo, and Grad School. Proceeds went to Saving Tiny Hearts, who fund life-saving research of congenital heart defects in children.

Lights dimmed and speakers cranked, DJ J-None, Trak Masta Tom, and Paul.VS.Godzilla put on an energized and exciting show, with a special appearance from e$money.
you’ll find tons of new originals, breaks, and the fantastic jam machine project i belong to, The Minutes Behind Band, featuring a rotating collection of great musicians I’ve met along the way.

The Mission: To create an interactive, temporary community out of trash.

This is a commissioned art installation piece for the C-Street Jam. This takes place June 26th on Commercial street.

We are a group of local artists, creative and radical thinkers and doers, who have joined together to make a city entirely out of discarded materials.

The purpose is tri-fold…One, to make art on a collaborative and community level. Two, to be interactive and stimulate ideas, dialogue and imagination. Three, to educate and inform the public of the environmental issues we face, while encouraging individual, local and global acts

Trash City is inspired by a future without the environmental luxuries we have today. A DIY culture, a radical revolution where citizens are forced to subsist off the accumulated trash and waste of their predecessors. This village, although bleak in theory, is a testament to the human will and creative spirit. It is a community where self-expression and self-reliance is celebrated. It’s an interpretation of a rising up out of the “ashes” and making something kick-ass with them.
