Local Art Directory Website Plans

As you familiarize yourself with our website, make sure you two leave a little room to grow; there’s a lot more website on the way. Here’s a rundown of features you can expect as our site blossoms from a humble webpage into a full-blown Web 2.0 Dynamic Content Integrated Service Platform for Social Web Media Application Solution®.

1. Local Artists and Groups

Meet the most creative people in the area. You’ll learn who does what and with whom they do it. See past and future projects, collaborations, and get to know the culture-makers. Looking to commission some art or hire creative talent? Get in touch with talented artists interested in sharing their services.

2. Hours of Sights* and Sounds

Soon you’ll be gallivanting about in our digital gallery, getting to know Springfield’s creative body of works. In addition to each piece itself, you’ll find all its vital information along with any related events, stories, or other artworks. We’ll also break down projects into their creative parts. For example, for each music album we’ll showcase the illustrator of the album art, the graphic designer who created the poster, and, of course, the band who recorded the music. Every and every creative component is given the attention it deserves.

* Note: Measuring sights in units of time is not an exact science.

3. Electronic Commerce

We’ll have all kinds of things to give you in exchange for your monies. Buy prints, download songs, order shirts, and peruse lots of stuff created just for the store! Tip the artists and LemonDrop while you’re at it.

And if you’re low on funds, skeptical of this internet-shopping thing, or just a cheapskate, we’ll still provide you with enjoyable content at whatever price you think is fair.

4. Social Feeds by the Score

We’ll quench your 21st-century thirst for information with musing blogs, friendly exchanges, and worth-your-attention links. All accompanied by both aimed and aimless conversations.

And don’t worry about having to register for yet another website — connect with your Facebook account and extend your social network to your real-world, local community.

5. See Art Around Town

The website will also feature a map of local coffee shops, eateries, and other businesses that proudly display local art on their walls. We’ll also maintain a list of music venues and theaters.

Sign up on our mailing list or subscribe to us in your newsreader to stay up-to-date with this project’s status! We look forward to organizing and presenting all the wonderful creativity in this town.

Commercial Street

November marks our second month on Commercial Street, and we couldn’t be happier with the neighborhood. The oldest historical district in Springfield, C-Street offers all kind of wonderful things: coffee, chocolate, antiques, fine wine, thrifty goods, pizza, and (soon) locally brewed beer! But what really set the street apart are its warm, upbeat shop owners. They believe in being a part of something bigger than the local economy; they believe in building an active, outgoing community.

C-Street merchants enrich the local culture with special events like Pets and Pumpkins, C-Street Jam, Farmer’s Market, and various parades. On the first Friday of every month, shops stay open late as the street is transformed into a haven of art and music. Live music can be found at multiple venues, along with art auctions, contests, and all kinds of refreshments.

These are all reasons that we feel right at home.

First Friday

The first days of a month spawn an air of excitement for things to come. Similar to the feeling of new years day, tearing another page from the calendar leaves one feeling refreshed and ready to make something of those 28 to 31 empty squares.

On the first Friday of every month, join us in the LemonDrop headquarters at 416 W. Commercial Street for a new installation of local creative culture. Each exhibition will highlight a unique idea or medium. Featured works could be the result of a single artist, a collaborative effort of many, or a collection of concepts we’ve been working on lately. Whatever the month’s content, rest assured it will easily fill one of your first little numbered squares. Go ahead and scratch in a nice big “LD” (I prefer to hold my pencil with a fist while doing this).

The roots of Springfield art hold strong well beyond the boundaries of downtown.
